3 BroKen Strings

Boasting a self-titled album with hits from both past and present, 3 BroKen Strings are more than just your average cover band.

Most cover bands fall into a certain niche of familiarity that works for them – they find their audience and a sound they like and that charts their career for the rest of history. With 3 BroKen Strings, we get something a little different.

A simple scroll through the track listing of their album shows 3 BroKen Strings doesn’t have just one comfort zone. While the release shares the same rock feel throughout, yet the diversity of style and song selection allows the band to showcase their musical talent in a way most cover bands don’t.

Whether it’s early 2000’s alternative rock like The White Stripe’s “Seven Nation Army” or 2016’s Bieber-featuring Electropop track “Cold Water” by Major Lazer, 3 BroKen Strings manages to add their own flavour while staying truthful to the original.

The formation of the group wasn’t even the original plan for front man Lachlan Mullins.

“Originally this was supposed to be a solo project,” he explains.

“Me and a whole bunch of family and friends were out for my brother’s 21st Birthday, and I was close with the owners of the venue.
“I approached them about my first solo gig. Two of my friends that were out that night were both into music and they insisted on playing the show with me.”

3 BroKen Strings currently consists of two steady members, with some of their debut album and their recently-released single borrowing the talents of other artists for features.

The band has made a name for themselves performing shows throughout southern NSW and parts of the ACT. Continuing in this fashion, 3 BroKen Strings is soon to be headlining The Basement Canberra – a 700 capacity venue in the nation’s capital.

Speaking of Canberra, 3 BroKen Strings has seen airplay on the city’s 2XXFM Radio station – one of the Country’s longest running community broadcasters. The group has also seen airtime in the New South Wales south coast with PowerFM Bega Bay having broadcast the group.

With its members still younger than most cover bands, 3 BroKen Strings somehow manages to convey the sense that they’ve been on the scene for a while, with mature talent and a commanding stage presence years above their age.

It’s easy to forget the band is still just two years on from its formation and a year from their debut record with gigs such as headlining The Basement. 3 BroKen Strings are moving ground quickly for a young band, and with more shows upcoming that trajectory should only continue into the future.
