Left Side Filter

Left Side Filter is the latest iteration for a group of friends that have been playing music together for years. Launching in April of this year, Left Side Filter have seen quick success with sold out shows and radio appearances.

The trio have been staples of Wollongong’s live music scene in recent years, and as Left Side Filter will be sure to continue that tradition.

“We are slowly growing an audience and are trying to create as much content as possible to gain new fans and get more people hopefully listening,” band member Blake says.

In terms of content, Left Side Filter currently only have two songs released, complete with music videos, yet managed to sell out their latest performance at Wollongong’s Rad Bar. Time playing at the venue in previous iterations of the band no doubt helped bring a crowd to the performance, but selling out a crowd on two releases is still no easy feat.

The band also managed to get airtime through FBI Radio, an independent Sydney broadcaster.

Describing their sound as “The lovechild of 90’s grunge and Neil Young”, the group list Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Silverchair as some of their influences but are quick to note “It’s ever changing, we get really into new styles and try to write music and develop ideas around a particular sound or feeling.”

This sentiment is easy to understand through listening to their music. ‘Figure Out’, the bands latest release, stands as a melancholy look at the meandering of daily life, while the band’s first single ‘One Two’ is more of a fast-paced endeavour.

Left Side Filter seem to have more diversity in their sound on the way, with Blake explaining “We would love to experiment more with our sound and especially in live studio recording and different concept albums.”

In terms of future plans, Left Side Filter have “a whole couple years of recorded material that we are just going through and mixing / mastering now,” explains Blake.

“As well as some shows lined up on in June.”

Whether Left Side Filter will sell out these shows or not is yet to be seen, however their few releases so far has nabbed the attention of at least some local music fans. With a diverse sound and more upcoming tracks, it’s likely Left Side Filter will only continue to grow its audience in the near future.
